Introduction to Secure Phones, Linux Computers, and Digital Tech Hardening
Saturday/Sunday, 11-12 March 2023
Course Description: Two full days of lecture and demonstrations covering a wide range of current common technology and how to harden your digital existence on and offline. Learn techniques to dramatically improve your privacy, security and a crash course introduction to learning custom secure ROM Android phones and Linux Operating System computers. Areas of discussion include general Cybersecurity, Fundamentals of Networking, Digital Privacy and Security and a test drive of many useful Software and Hardware Applications to lock down and control your data.

Materials needed for class:
-Note taking materials as desired
-Optional: 8GB or larger size USB drive, SSD or SD card (new in original packaging if you want to receive a custom LinuxOS) *Must be new in packaging due to security reasons
-Camera equipment as desired (you are welcome to film audio/video as long as you are willing to share the footage with me for educational and promotional use.
0800-1700 both days: Introduction to cellular technology and understanding of how cell phones collect information about us. Basic networking principles are applied throughout the day as we discuss the most potent tools and methods to protect ourselves online, and prevent data loss and data collection on us. Demonstration and discussion of custom hardware devices and software applications to use for maximum privacy and security.

At the end of the course, we will provide each student with access to a plethora of free content including custom operating systems, resources for phones and computer hardware, resources for more learning on each topic and much more.
DHAC Level 1 course is a very fast paced, and extremely packed full, informative weekend. The goal is to have everyone able to spin up a Linux system on their current computer, understand GrapheneOS phones, and use Ventoy with various Operating Systems off of an external drive, as well as understand basic privacy strategies in the digital tech space. Discussion on some of the bigger known threats out there against us. This course will provide you with the basic entry point to an extremely wide range of topics, with some core ‘must have’ know hows to go over in some detail to get your own digital life kickstarted towards a more hardened existence. The course is perfect for the average person that wants to know where to start towards proper digital hygiene and data leak prevention.
